Bengaluru: From June 26 to June 29, 2024, the Hilton Bengaluru Embassy Manyata Business Park played home to the 14th edition of the VIBGYOR Model United Nations (VIBGYOR MUN), which was organized by the VIBGYOR Group of Schools, a top network of K–12 schools. Students participated in simulated international diplomacy throughout the conference, which helped them develop their leadership and global awareness.

‘SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities’ was the main theme of the 14th VIBGYOR MUN, highlighting the dedication of the VIBGYOR to sustainable development. More than a 1,000 students from 36 Indian schools enthusiastically participated in VIBGYOR MUN and embraced the spirit of diplomacy and collaboration that the United Nations promotes. Students also engaged in intense debate and discussion on pressing global issues.

Vice-Chairperson, VIBGYOR Group of Schools, Ms. Kavita Kerawalla expressed her delight in the success of the conference and said, “We are thrilled by the enthusiasm and dedication our students show for global issues. The VIBGYOR MUN exemplifies our commitment to offering a comprehensive education that extends beyond traditional classrooms, equipping our students to become proactive and conscientious global citizens. This initiative not only promotes critical thinking and analytical skills but also enhances their ability to solve problems effectively. Moreover, it cultivates a spirit of collaboration and teamwork among them.”

Nine distinct committees met during the conference, providing student delegates with a forum to participate in thought-provoking discussions and debates on matters of global importance. These committees, including the World Health Organisation (SDG 11), Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations General Assembly Legal (UNGA- Legal), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), International Press, All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM), The Global South, and Administration and Security, tackled a wide array of topics.

The MUN Colosseum was a memorable segment where Chairs and Executive Board members engaged in spirited debate on the topic of ‘Protection takes precedence over privacy – Surveillance and Digital rights in India.’ The debate demonstrated exceptional leadership and provided valuable insights into global issues.

The event’s high point was the closing ceremony, which was attended by the VIBGYOR Group’s Founder Chairman Mr. Rustom Kerawalla and Vice-Chairperson Ms. Kavita Kerawalla. Their perspectives on global governance, the significance of youth engagement in international affairs, and the influence of education in shaping future leaders greatly motivated the delegates. The VIBGYOR Group of Schools is committed to carry on this heritage of excellence and encourage students to interact with the world and make significant contributions to society.
